Limitations in a figurative sense, correlates to the limitations of women and girls who struggle to express their true nature and emotional needs because of restrictions placed upon them by society, relationships or their own personality.
In a literal sense, it refers to the limited palette of the show – that of indigo oil paint, titanium white oil paint and sanguine conte crayon; and to the limited subject matter – female portraiture.
This art is to provoke thoughts of personal boundaries that exist and may never be broken through. The intent of these paintings is to find the person who will view them with soulful empathy.
“Limitations” is an acknowledgement of those women who were challenged, whether in their past, present or future. This body of work is a tribute to those women who were able to find their true selves at some point in their lives. - 2007
